Phosphazene chemistry operates at the interface of organic (living) and inorganic (non-living) chemistry.
MST’s Polyphosphazene Platform occupies a niche area wherein combinations of molecular constituents are designed to create materials with properties not previously attainable. Using this platform, phosphazenes have been designed in university research laboratories to bioerode for tissue and bone regeneration, sustain controlled release of drugs and vaccines, speed communications with non-linear optical devices, produce o-rings that do not freeze when exposed to liquid oxygen, and for many other applications.
The U.S. Department of Defense considers polyphosphazenes to be one of the most important classes of inorganic-organic polymeric materials since the introduction of silicones.
